In this video, Daryll Collins, co-author of “Portfolios of the Poor” and Senior Associate at Bankable Frontier Associates, explains the impact study of new initiatives in financial services for the poor in South Africa. Measuring the effect of financial behaviour in South Africa, Daryll explains that people started saving in banks that was a step ahead of hoarding cash at home. Further she explains that financial diaries revealed poor people’s mechanism of savings and showed their financial behaviour over a long period. Daryl’s principal area of research is estimating the impact of microfinance programs on the financial management of poor households.
