In this video series-1, Tamara Cook, Program Officer, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, discusses the need for technology intervention in banking. She explains how mobile banking can solve two major problems of bankers, namely, the cost of serving clients down and reaching people who live far from the branch. Tamara looks into the banks’ past methods to deal with these two problems that included increasing the efficiency of the staff, installing ATMs, through post offices etc. However, lot needs to be done to reach out to poor people and here she sees immense opportunity in m-banking.
