Maelis is a Senior Associate at BFA. Her work focuses on exploring innovative business models leveraging technology to bring financial services to excluded communities. She is the Program Manager of OPTIX, a multi-year program co-designed with MetLife Foundation, that helps financial institutions building better product portfolios for low-income customers, by digitizing and adopting customer-centric cross-sell strategies She also heads Catalyst Fund, a global accelerator program for early-stage inclusive fintech startups in emerging markets, supported by JPMorgan Chase & Co and the Gates Foundation. Prior to this role, she launched RemitMas, a money transfer startup for Latino migrants to save in their home countries; and spent 5 years at the International Finance Corporation supporting microfinance institutions to explore digital innovation and adopt consumer protection practices. Maelis is a Fulbright Scholar and holds a dual MBA and Master in International Affairs from Columbia Business School and the School of International and Public Affairs. She received her B.A Cum Laude from University College London in Political Science and Economics.
